This thesis mainly discusses, based on the theory of design management,the design innovation of furniture industry in the background of experienceeconomy. It focuses its attention on the process of design management, whichplays an important role for the new product development, and wants to find theeffective methods to improve the furniture industry's innovation capabilities,especially for china's.Furniture manufacture is a traditional industry. The limitation of productinnovation has hindered the development of the furniture company in the neweconomics environment. And the furniture industry makes efforts to improveinnovation ability and adaptability, which is considered as the ultimate drive forbusiness success. This study explores the process of industry's innovation,which combines the design innovation and the design management. Form thisperspective, the new product development is significantly correlated with designmanagement which is an important component of the development strategy offurniture enterprise. It can help company to coordinate the relationship betweenthe product design, the technology and the marketing.As a new discipline, however, the theoretical framework of designmanagement is immature. Researchers have different definitions on designmanagement. And also, it is a cross-discipline, its scope of study includes twosubjects, the design science of arts and the enterprise management, which letsresearcher, has various perspectives about the function of design management.The scope of design management, in this thesis, has two levels. One is based onthe enterprise strategy level, which can help organization to developing strategyfor business success. Another is based on the management function level, whichworks on the new product development and improves the efficiency of workersin the process of design innovation.According to the two levels' theory, after analysis the current situation andthe weakness of china's furniture industry, this paper suggests that severalaspects of furniture design need to innovate in the context of experienceeconomy, such as methods, goal, and patterns of design. And it also makes aconclusion that with the demand of customers has directed the new productdevelopment in the experience economy, the design managers need to integrate design strategies, study out the design goals, select the design methods andimprove the management styles. Those can help the furniture enterprise toaccelerate the development of new products or the improvement of existingproducts, and adjust its innovation capabilities to the changes of economicsenvironment.
