Research On Growth And Productivity Of Livestock Industry In Jilin Province

Livestock Industry is an important part and way of grain crops into value-added and the adjustment of agricultural structure. Its development is conductively not only raise farm income, increased supplies of animal products, improve people's diet structure but also help to promote rural industrial restructuring, stimulate the food industry, feed industry and the pharmaceutical industry and other related industries. Since the Reform and Opening of China, livestock production of Jilin Province access to the rapid growth with an average annual growth rate as high as 18%, has became is the fastest growing sector of agriculture. To adapt the international and national environment, livestock industry in Jilin Province should develop intensively. The growth scale and quality should be emphasized equally. For realizing such objectives, we should first know the current growth regular pattern of livestock industry in Jilin Province. It is meaningful for the future development of livestock industry to analyze the factors that influence livestock growth in recent years, especially technological progress and technical efficiency, and conclude the rule of livestock growth in Jilin Province.This paper is based on the theory of Economic Growth and Efficiency analysis. First, we introduce the general situation analyze the integrated production advantage of livestock industry in Jilin Province. Then, analyze the input and output as well as cost-benefit rate of livestock by the example of hog, cow and cattle, use the Data Envelopment Analysis which is aimed at the panel data to calculate and decompose Malmquist Productivity Index of hog, cow and cattle.The main contents and results are as follows:The first part of this selection clarifies the background and significance of the literature reviewed, presents the content, theoretical foundation and methods.In the second part, we use statistical data to analysis and synthesis the development of the livestock industry in Jilin Province and the status in China. The results show that livestock industry plays an important role both in China and in Jilin Province. Cattle production has a strong comparative advantage; hog and cow have little comparative advantage.In the third part, we use cost-benefit data to analysis the factors of inputs and outputs changes of livestock production in Jilin Province. The results show that in the 20th century, since the 1980s, beef and dairy cattle yield levels increased progressively, the yield level of hog has fallen. Among the various input elements of livestock, in addition to gradually reduce labor inputs, others have increased.In Partâ…£, use Malmquist Productivity Index to calculate and decompose the Total Factor Productivity of livestock in Jilin Province. As the results of calculations, in 1989-2005, livestock productivity growth was manifested in slow growth and volatility. Technical progress is the decisive force to promote Total Factor Productivity growth. The technical efficiency of livestock production is not high, particularly in the lower level of scale efficiency.
