On Establishing Of Urban Tourism Sign System

With the rapid growth of modern tourism, the scope of tourist attractions is also broadening, and so tourists have more choices. Nowadays, more and more tourists select cities as their tourist destinations to experience different urban culture. Cities, as the national or regional center of politics, economy, business, culture and information, are becoming tourist destinations. Besides other central functions, cities now have the function of tourism.The development of urban tourism, first of all, depends on the construction of urban infrastructure, which provides visitors for comfort and convenience. As an important part of tourist infrastructure system, the tourism sign system offers a kind of unobvious service to urban tourists.This thesis surveys and analyses the situation of the urban tourism sign system in China, and attempts to establish urban tourism sign system by using the theory of urban image element. It consists of six parts:(1)The first part introduces the foreign and domestic studies of urban tourism and its interpretation system, and points out the significance of this study.(2)The second part elucidates some concepts in this thesis, such as sign, sign system, and urban tourism, and then puts a strong emphasis on the theory of urban image created by Kevin Lynch.(3)In the third part, this thesis analyses the situation and primary functions of the tourism sign system in the domestic cities, and then stresses the importance of the establishing of the tourism sign system.(4)The fourth part attempts to establish the urban tourism sign system through the theory of urban image, and discusses the principles and processes of designing the sign system.(5)This thesis takes the tourism of Chengdu City as an example and puts forward some advice in order to perfect the urban tourism sign system of Chengdu.(6)The last part summarizes several standpoints and shortcomings of this thesis, and then points out the direction of the research in future.
