A Design Study On The Direction Sign System Of Urban Public Environment-An Analysis Of The Present Situation Of Jinan Direction Sign

In recent years, as the image of Urban Construction has been deeply rooted among people, China comes into a peak time of Urban renewal and Urban Construction. The Orientation identification, which is in the environments of city, is the reflection about the image of the city. Reasonable Orientation identification system may effet communicates information, service people, and provides better environmental order, social norms. Overall, there are rigid copies and blind imitation on the Urban Identification, specially on the function, which is far behind the improvement of environmental construction and the actual demand of people,The construction on modern Urban Identification System should be multilevel, considering not only the accuracy, efficiency of Information Communication, diversity and complexity of a city, but also the history and culture, actual demand of people. That makes the Identification System much more humanized, which express the urban culture more clearly.The study begins with the concept of direction sign system of urban public environment and sorts out its relationship with city image. Then the thesis discusses the design principle, method and application. The thesis consists of five parts and the main content is as follows.The first part introduces the rationale, content, methodology and research significance direction sign system design.The first chapter, beginning with the background of direction system development, discusses relevant concepts and categories of direction sign system to have a systematic understanding of direction sign design. Then the study further analyzes the close relationship between direction sign design and city image construction. It is found that systematic and standard direction sign design is a must in terms of city construction and development in the future.The second chapter presents the design elements and principles of direction sign system and those are the necessary factors of reasonable direction sign system. The third chapter explains the applications of direction sign system theory and the analysis of present situation of Jinan direction sign system. Then the researcher makes a further analysis of the direction sign system of urban public environment by taking pictures on the spot. In addition, the researcher makes discussions on the applications of design elements and principles in the real situation. From the study, the advantages and disadvantages of Jinan direction sign system design are concluded and constructive suggestions are put forward in view of the existing problems.The last chapter looks ahead to the development of direction sign system design based on relevant theories and case studies.
