Logistics Industry: Convergence And Organizational Innovation

With the development of information communication technology and other technologies, industrial integration has undergone a furthermost development in the past 10 years. In the same way, integration inevitably occurs in logistics industry, as we know, the tertiary industry.Integration in logistics industry is the product of socio-economic development to a certain stage, as a result of many factors, including the ?external technology and the driving force behind the system as well as the internal drive from the industry itself. From the aspect of the traditional three industries, logistics industry is integrated with the primary industry and secondary industry; while from the aspect of the tertiary industry, logistics industry is also integrated with other industries within the t ertiary industry, which is called integration outside logistics industry or cross-industry integration. On the other hand, all the subsystems within logistics industry, like storage, transportation, distribution processing and information processing integrate in the way of resource rearrangement. This kind of integration is the integration within logistics industry. However, integrated logistics industry does not take the place of all the former logistics activities after integration. As a matter of fact, it organically integrates all the services of the subordinate industries, via modern logistics management services concept and modern information technology, to create the "1 +1> 2" economic effects, by relying on the value chain.Under the conditions of integration, industry association has undergone a fundamental change, which requires the organization of modern logistics enterprises with virtualized, flat and modular characteristics. 4PL is a major innovative paradigm of the organization, as well as the microstructure to deepen the integration process of logistics industry, whose organizational characteristics have a high degree of consistency with the demands of industry integration. With the optimization of the industrial structure, the innovative activities of the microstructure of logistics industry suited to the integration process of industries enables the industrial structure to be highly dynamic and rational and to further optimize the industrial structure and its development.Five main factors restrains the integration process of China's logistics industry , i.e., the fragmentation of the system management, low logistics information technology standardization, the logistics market immaturity, not effectively expanded border of logistics industry and the "bottlenecks" of infrastructure. Accordingly, this article argues that the governmental departments should follow the complex characteristics of logistics industry, adjust their roles of the mechanism, transform governmental functions, relax regulation, encourage technological innovation, and nurture main logistics industrial body, so as to create the conditions for the integration of logistics industry.
