Influence Of Yanbian Population Change On Its Regional Economic Development

Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture lies in the eastern part of Jilin province, and it is the Northeast frontier of China. Under the strategic policy of family planning, the stable development under the low fertility leveling has been maintained for many years in Yanbian. Population is the fundamental element in the process of economic development。Since the 1990s, Yanbian has experienced population change in a relative different way from other cities, which brought great impacts on its regional economic development.On the basis of analysis on the relationship between population change and current regional economic development in Yanbian, this paper emphatically analyzes the influence of population change on regional economic development in Yanbian, and give some useful suggestions to promote the harmonious development.There are three aspects of population change in Yanbian, the first is population number change. Since 2002, the total population has been reducing with large scale and fast speed. The second is the population structure change. With the rapid population aging, the proportion of aging people has been increased. Besides, the maladjusted sex ratio in rural areas became more and more serious. The third is frequent population migration with some special characteristics.Population change of Yanbian brought some kind of influences on the regional economic development. From the perspective of population number change, the long-term population reduction will cause the shortage of the labor force and some king of change in industrial structure. From the perspective of population structure change, population aging has great influences on regional economy in many aspects. It challenges the present pattern of economic growth and social security system; It influences the labor supply and social productivities; It influences the sex ratio, which will cause some potential pressure and unstable change to the whole society. From the perspective of population migration, on one hand, urbanization of rural population has the potential advantages for promoting the social economic development and improving the laborer quality, also increasing their incomes. But on the other hand, urbanization attracts young and talented people from rural areas, large-scales of this kind of rural population migration to cities will cause the overcrowded of the cities and the shortage of able labor in rural areas, which will harm the rural economic development.Based on the discussion, there are 8 suggestions concluded for improving the sustainable development of Yanbian population change and regional economic development. The first is to carry out further study and research on Yanbian population change and regional economic development. The second is to plan and coordinate the reasonable population migration. The third is to structure and restructure a new human resources development and management model. The fourth is to speed up the construction and improvement of social security system. The fifth is to speed up the optimization and promotion of the industrial structure. The sixth is to enforce the environment protection. The seventh is to boost the multilateral economic cooperation in the Tumen river area. The eighth is to promote the strategy of"Economic integration between Yan-Long-Tu areas".
