It is well-known that the development of new-style manufacturing industry depends on technology innovation. However, the technology innovation efficiency (ETI) of China's manufacturing industry is not perfect. So the design and application of criteria in order to evaluate the ETI of China's manufacturing industry is an important issue. In this paper, some efficient quantitative criteria are developed. Furthermore, the DEA models are employed to calculate the ETI of China's manufacturing industry. In addition, some advices are given in order to improve the ETI of China's manufacturing industry.Some definitions about the technology innovation and the ETI are given. The background, significance, main ideas and the framework of the research are also given in chapter 1. The thesis reviews the theories of the ETI and the researches about the evaluation of ETI, based on predecessors' research, the evaluation criteria of the ETI of China's manufacturing industry is developed from the view of input and output. And the DEA models are employed to evaluate the efficiency of technology innovation of China's manufacturing industry. Generally speaking, the efficiency of technology innovation of China's manufacturing industry from 1996-2005 is not perfect. The augmentation of input of technology innovation doesn't bring about the raise the ETI. According to different technical levels, technology content is directly proportional to ETI, though there is an exception. With regard to different style, the ETI of textile industry is the highest, machinery and electronics industry is less and resource processing industry is the least. There is some discrepancy between possession of technology innovation resource and ETI. At last, some suggestions to improve the ETI of China's manufacturing industry are given. Furthermore, some countermeasures for the industries in different technical levels and types are also proposed.
