For a long time all the social and economics groups deem universally that China is in the period of infinite supplying of simple labor. However due to the long-term distorting of price of the surplus labor in the Chinese rural, the dream of the infinite supply has collapsed with the outbreak of the shortage of the rural labor since 2003. According to the phenomena, this paper is to explore and study the migration of the Chinese rural surplus labor on the basis of the former research production and made the whole and systemic analysis of the current practical.Firstly it is expounded that farmers are rational persons who pursue the maximum of their own benefits when they make migrating choices as well as investing choices with the establishment of the connotation of rural surplus labor. Next the paper studies the seven periods of the migration, estimates the total supply of our rural surplus labor and has drawn a conclusion that there is no shortage of the total supply of rural surplus labor with the aid of General Equilibrium of economics, on the foundation of which this thesis makes an all-round and systematical analysis about why the shortage of the rural labor exists, and has tested the two main factors which influence the migration of the Chinese rural labor: the income difference between urban and rural and the migration cost of rural surplus labor with the aid of the model of labor flowing between urban and rural. I consider that the current migration of rural surplus labor is mainly influenced by the migration cost, which explains why there is still the shortage of rural labor under the circumstance of such a big income and wage gap between urban and rural. Finally the thesis analyzes the influence of the shortage of rural labor on our economy and proposes some feasible threads and suggestions that suit to the current situation. I think we should deepen the reform of household register institution and unite the urban and rural labor market in order to reduce the institutional obstacles, and I am looking forward to offering some useful references to the migration of rural surplus labor.
