The Research On The Path-Dependence Problem In The Corporate Core Competence

Focusing on how to maintain lasting competitive advantage in the fierce market competition, Economics and management workers have made diverse explain, core competence theory is one of them. In the early stages of this theory, the research centre is put on the connotation of the core competence, that is mainly solved the problem "what is core competence"; since then, the application of the theory begin to be concerned by the people, that is on how to nurture and enhance the core competence. In the latter part of studies, as the existing research results explained the nurture and raise of the core competence, the most researches focused on the innovations of the core competence. From the perspective of the time, it seemed to ignore the historical evolution path of the core competence of enterprises.This article tried to make a probe to the evolving process of the core competence, referenced to the relevant ideas of the path-dependence theory in the New Institutional Economics, and based on the research status of the core competence. The article analyzed the path-dependent factors in the core competence and the formation process, and put forward my own solutions to problems.The paper is composed with six chapters: The first chapter is theory review, which madea sump and evaluation to two theories——the path-dependence theory and the corecompetence theory; The second chapter established an analysis framework on path dependency, which is the tool of the researches; The third chapter is the focus and difficult of this papers, it mainly expects to introduce the path-dependence theory into the discussion on the core competence theory. We would like to realize the close combination of two theories, rather than apply stiffly. This chapter expounded the path-dependence factors firstly, and then probed the formation mechanism and characters of path dependency; The fourth chapter analyzed the influence of the path dependency, that is the adverse consequences may arise; The fifth chapter is about the application and test of the theory. Aiming at the path-dependence problems in the building of the core competence and combining with relevant theory, we make several suggestions as to prevent negative path dependency and break lock-in; The last chapter is the part of the end, it aggregates the research methods and ideas that we have used in the article. The chapter also summarizes the value of the theory research. At the last, we proposed a number of prospects about the theory we are discussing.
