In a knowledge economy era, the source of economic growth in enterprises has depended on knowledge capital. Knowledge workers play an increasingly important role and become strategic resources in an enterprise. But because the present majority enterprises are lack of understanding of the knowledge workers'characteristics, they excessively depend upon the mechanical management form ,which has limited the knowledge workers'performance and individuality to a great extent. Also, some enterprises have realized that performance management should be employed for this special community-the knowledge worker, which is not appropriate to knowledge workers, so the enterprises couldn't achieve satisfactory effects. Therefore, it's necessary to acquiant completely knowledge workers'requirements and features in order to develop performance management system that's adaptive to the knowledge employees and bring about the combination of working pattern and management way.Basing on the definition of knowledge workers and their performance, this article analyses working nature and individual need and characteristic of knowledge workers with comparative method. According to the present situation of knowledge workers'performance management, this article discusses performance factors of knowledge workers and draws the I-P-O factor model. The performance management system of knowledge workers based on I-P-O factor model should include performance input, performance process and performance output. In the part of establishment about performance input, this articles explicts that formation of knowledge working ability is basis of the performance input, which provides precontidition for increment of knowledge workers'value . The establishment of performance process forces on performance operation by optimizing strategic planning and communication mechanism, and researchs on the system of performance appraisal and performance improvement by combining with systematic thouhgt and contingency thought, and desigins performance evaluation index system by factor analysis. At last, the article constructs the performance output system and put forward the problem of application about results of knowledge workers'performance.This article hopes to establish a scientific, reasonable system which can be operated in knowledge worker performance evaluation so we can provide a way to be simulated to solve the problem knowledge worker performance for theories fields and company's correlated departments.
