How we effectively explain the variance of profitability among small and medium-sized enterprises in undeveloped areas with the theory on technical innovation? Author thinks that the two paradigms, of which are school of industry structure and resource-view, are better for this studying. The former researches on the basis of Porter's theory(1981) of industrial environment, followed by the S-C-P, namely the industrial structure determines the firm's conduct which determines firm's performances; The latter studies on the Barny(1991) and Grant(1991) theories, which place address on S-P or S-C-P, namely different firm resources give rise to different profitability, or via firm's capability. The two theories focus on different studying object so as to lead to different paradigm. Therefore author thinks the effective reduction of studying sample can root out the difficulties. So he takes mechanical and electronic industry in LanZhou as an example and takes advantage of path's analysis of structural equation model(SEM).Hence the thesis steers search on four subject. Firstly, author summarizes the definition of technical innovation, the paths of technical innovation, and the studying cases on path of technical innovation. Secondly, he analyzes the characters of small and medium-sized enterprises in undeveloped areas and further put forward a path analysis and analyzing frame. Thirdly, he takes the mechanical and electronic industry in LAN Zhou as an example and adopts SEM to finish the case studying. Finally, he brings forward some advice for small and meduim-sized enterprises in LanZhou.
