Ever since the reform and opening policy was put into practice, our nation has made great progress on economy, and the people's living standard has been improved a lot; at the same time, the dwelling space per person has been very small, and the population number is great, all of which make the housing and public building are in great demand, so the building trades are in great development. Especially in the first few years of the 21^st century, with the development of engineering design and construction technique, modern building size is becoming bigger and bigger, so the construction process is becoming more complex. Because the long period and high risk of building engineering, in the general management of construction speed, quality and cost, a lot of enterprise accelerate construction speed and reduce construction cost to get the best profit, which may effect the quality of the constructions. The construction processes need not only a lot of labor and mechanical equipments, but also lots of constructional materials, which also need a lot of work to produce, transport, reserve and provide. It is becoming more difficult to efficiently harmonize the labor, money and material. Even a small careless may results in the idleness or pause of the labor, and then effects the progression of the entire engineering construction.Reasonable project schedule management can get an optimal equilibrium between construction period and cost in the premise of the high quality of structures. Therefore, in the management of modern construction projects, it is becoming an important work to control and manage the construction schedule. In the premise of the high quality of engineering project, the optimization between the project cost and construction schedule determines the successful of a project management. So it looks very important to study the controlment of construction schedule.The article took the project of the old people's home of Nansan as an example, analyzed the factors that affect the progress of the project, and expounded the theory, principle, method and approach of the schedule control. The construction schedule was controlled by the methods of organize, technique, contract, economy and information management, and other kinds of onsite specific methods were also used to ensure the enforcement of the scheduled plan.A project management software 'Project' was used to manage the project, which defines the logical relationship of network graph, and combines the virtue of calculable time parameter and readable Gantt chart. The 'time scale network' was worked out by building the dual-code network plan into the time coordinate, which can make the network graph more readable. According to the actual demand of the engineering construction management in our country, it is necessary to develop more function of the Gantt chart to make it more useful by using the network planning technique and the powerful capability of computer.First of all, make out an optimum construction schedule. In the construction process of executing the plan, regularly inspect the actual construction process and compare it to the plan. If any deviation was found, analyze the causation of the deviation and estimate the affect to the time limit for the project. And then make out necessary correction measures, and amend the original plan. Repeat the cycle till the final acceptance of the project.When the actual schedule has some deviation to the arranged schedule, analyze the causation of the deviation, take effective measures to adjust the schedule and arrange the resource rationally to insure the engineering construction can be finished in the original time limit for the project. Or else, in the precondition of insuring the quality of the construction and not enhancing the cost, shorten the construction period properly.In the construction process of the old people's home of Nansan, we seek after some methods to control the construction schedule better together with the construction unit. In the research of schedule control methods in the process of construction, we summarized some successful experiences, and put forward some solution to the deficiencies exist in the management process.
