According to USDA's (the United States Department of Agriculture) Foreign Agricultural Service, China is by far the largest producer of peanuts, with more than double the production of India, the world's second largest peanut producer. Meanwhile, China is also the world largest exporter of peanut. As an important farm produce which makes great contribution to earning foreign exchange, China's peanut enjoys high reputation and competitive edge in the world market. The superiorities of peanut industry in China are obvious in terms of planting distribution, economic efficiency and market potential. But problems still exist such as specialized production, food safety, the variety of peanut products and support in policy and scientific technology. On the basis of a general overview of China's peanut export, this paper presents problems like green trade barriers and policy barriers from which China's peanut exports usually suffer in the international market. Especially the cases of returned shipment of China's peanut exports are increasing in recent years because of excessive aflatoxin content. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the causes of obstacles to China's peanut export and to find out remedies for those problems. At last, based on the successful experience of other peanut exporting countries, suggestions and countermeasures are made for peanut growers, peanut exporters and governments. Measures must be taken to promote the peanut industry in China including strengthening policy support, improving scientific research, developing peanut industry associations, guaranteeing food safety, combining the production accordingly with market demand, and giving priority to the deep processing of peanut.
