America has become the most prosperous developed country with the fast developing economy. The prosperity results from various reasons, of which the method of production is an important point. The research on mass production (MP) was mostly focused on the science of management before, with the introduction of technological problems about MP. The paper tends to analyses the influences of MP on the various aspects of American society including economics by probing into the causes, the process and the role of MP in American history. The paper aims at working out one of the reasons that make America such a powerful country from the angle of MP method.In modern times, historians and economist pay more attention to Mass Customization, and little to Mass Production. MP had influenced America deeply from all kinds of aspects. But nowadays it is disappearing gradually in American history and will be for study only as historical relics in future.What is new in the paper is that it summarizes the various causes of MP in detail that broaden the views of the history of American economics and manufacturing development. Although it is not so important in American manufacturing industry now, it still remains the use for reference for the developing countries.After such research, it is obvious that MP has played an important role in plenty of fields in American history. MP developed ultimately in the automotive industry which is just in bud in China. There are so many problems that ever existed during the first period of MP arising in China these years with the development of the automotive industry and even the whole manufacturing industry such as a waste of resources.Chapter One mainly tells what is Mass Production and the development of technology of mass production in the early stage. Such technology was not a complete mode or system then. It also reviews the history of methods of American production in brief. Chapter Two explains American System which finally led to MP systematically. It makes clear the background and developing process of American System. Besides, the main characteristics and the effects on the American society are included.Chapter Three studies how MP came into being in detail. It presents the background of MP firstly, and then accounts for the formation and developing process of MP. At last, it analyzes the characteristics and its effects on different fields such as manufacturing industry, service trade, telecom, military, agriculture and so on.Chapter Four tells about the economic and social influences of the MP in America from several points of view. It finally gives a summary of MP in history.
