Ecological footprint analysis is a new method of ecological economics that quantitatively measures ecological consumption by mankind and the extent of sustainable development. Touristic ecological footprint is the application of its theory in tourism research. With the extension of tourism activities' scope, fast development in tourism industries bring considerable benefits to regional economic, and it meanwhile bring some negative effects to local physical and social environments, also to the native culture. How to evaluate numerically regional sustainable tourism development is one of significant themes for tourism study. Based on the model of ecological footprint, combined with the ecological consumption and its structure of tourists, this paper leads touristic ecological footprint model into assessment of sustainable tourism, and taking Jiujiang as an example for empirical research. This article altogether is divided four chapters to carry on the elaboration. The first part is introduction. It obtains from the research background and the significance, summarizes the research progress of "the ecological footprint" and "the touristic ecological footprint" in domestic and foreign, and then proposes the research methods and the technical route. The second part is the theoretics. Based on the elaboration of ecological footprint, this part makes the key elaboration to the correlation theory of the analytic method of the touristic ecological footprint, and builds the calculating models including food, accommodation, transportation, visiting, shopping and entertainment. The third part is empirical research, taking Jiujiang as an example, calculates the touristic ecological footprint of Jiujiang in 2005, and carries on a multianalysis to the result. Finally, it put forward some strategies for the sustainable development of tourism. The fourth part is conclusion. It summarizes the conclusion of this research, and also points out the problems.Through the research, it can draw following several conclusions:(1) The touristic ecological footprint of Jiujiang is 204.8835×10-4hm2 per capita in 2005, and the tourism ecological deficit reaches 26.9570×10-4hm2 per capita, which shows that the tourism development of the region is not at the sustainable condition.(2) From the touristic ecological footprint's structure of Jiujiang, the transportation takes the mainstay, but food, accommodation, visiting, shopping and entertainment take little. More, the energy consumption of vehicle is the key factor which causes the touristic transportation footprint and the fossil energy land to be the largest one in touristic ecological footprint of Jiujiang.(3)There is a phenomenon of structural malposition between touristic ecological capacity and its ecological footprint in Jiujiang.(4) The essential factors that affect the scenic spots' ecological footprint mainly include the consumption pattern of tourist diet, the scale of lodging facility, the type of vehicle, traveling flows, travel distance and the productivity of ecologically productive area. According to these factors, we can provide feasible suggestions for the sustainable development of Jiujiang's tourism industry.
