At present, as a result of the improvement of living standard, the increase in the amount of national income, the greater number of women in the workforce, the division of labor in society as well as the five working day system, Restaurant industry has become a promising career to the potential entrepreneurs. However, according to the statistical report released in 2003, there were thirty percent of entrepreneurs who failed within one year when they ventured into their first business while seventy percent failed within three years, but the stunning startup failure percentage does not stop people from starting their own business.However, running the restaurant industry is harder than what people have expected. Plenty of preparations are required before this business can be started, such as market survey, finding an ideal location, purchase of equipment,menu design, recruitment of workers as well as worker training . Therefore, professional knowledge and marketing strategies are essential in order to operate this business successfully. Based on the interview with the entrepreneurs in regard to the factors of being successful and competitive in food business, this research paper provides profound insight into what are the factors of successfully setting up the Restaurant Industry in Qingdao.Based on the information from the interviews, this research paper contains twenty four topics and factors of being competitive in the market which including: the selection of business location, products and service quality, decoration, safety & hygiene, ambience, arrangement and variety of meals as well as the extra services. In addition, this paper provides several suggestions to the potential entrepreneurs in food business. They are: the accumulation of experience, selection of location, decoration and ambience, safety and hygiene, arrangements and variety of meals, food service quality, the operation system as well as the building of purchasing system.
