Strategic Supplier Selections' Evaluation Indexes Application Research

From 1990's, with the advent of economic globalization and market competition intensifies, Supply Chain Management (for short: SCM) and strategic supplier selection have gained more and more attentions by scholars and the companies. More and more companies started to strength the cooperation with the strategic suppliers.This article base on the study of the SCM related theories, strategic supplier's character and strategic supplier selection propose, constructed a strategic supplier evaluation index matrix. Under this index matrix application case study in company F hardware strategic supplier selection, summarized below conclusions:(1) The purpose of strategic supplier selection is to increase manufacturer's core competition & creating value for customer. Therefore, the selected supplier should be with very good quality capability, production capability, technical capability, service, security & social responsibility. These capabilities build up the strategic supplier evaluation index matrix.(2) Strategic supplier selection process is complex and need to be performed by steps. Each step should be with different key capabilities due to the focus is different.(3) Strategic supplier selection required the related departments'cooperation. It is because of the requirements form the different technical functions and the company's group decision.(4) At the first stage, the actualities of supplier'quality, production and technical are the key points. At the 2nd stage, we focus on the suppliers'quality system, security & social responsibility. At the last stage, the performance of their quality, production, and service capability will be mainly reviewed. A good strategic should be with full-scale capabilities.The index matrix of strategic supplier evaluation, the flow chart of strategic supplier selection and the related evaluation methods in this article can be referenced for the Chinese companies.
