In the international trade of our country, the trade frictions between China and the developed countries increase dramatically, especially the quality or technological frictions; the competition between China and the developing countries get more and more intense, the low price competition of export products is impossible. In this situation, it is an excellent strategy to improve the quality competitiveness of our export products. Therefore, it is the first step of understanding the quality position of our products. However, the research on the comparison of the product quality is still a blank in China at present. Under this situation, the author draws lessons from the research approach to product quality abroad, and analyzes its product quality position in bilateral trade by making industrial export product of the country between China and principal trade partner(America, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Britain, France, Germany, India,East Union) as the target. The comparison of the product quality will provide evidences for the upgrade of our products. The thesis first introduces the research on the products' quality in the home and abroad, then by utilizing the three indicators—unit value, the share of exports in quality sensitive industries and the share of exports in the high price segment, combine the data of 1996 and 2006, after calculation, analyze the position of our products'quality in the international market. The conclusions are stated as follows:1. Generally, in the bilateral trade between China and the principal trade partner, campared with the developed countries, most quality competitive industries are labor-intensive ones; compared with the developing countries, some quality competitive industries are labor-intensive ones; some are capital-intensive or techonology-intensive ones. Compared 2006 with 1996, some other pattern industries have transferred into quality-detenmined ones.2. From the degree of inter-quality upgrading, compared 2006 with 1996, it shows that there are not only some differences in the high-revealed quality-detemined industries but also in the patners. The industries transfer from labor-intensive ones into capital or techonology- intensive ones; the patners change from the developed countries to the developing ones.3. From the intra-quality upgrading, compared 2006 with 1996, on the one hand, the pattern of the high price segment industries improved a lot, from labor-intensive to techonology-intensive. But compared with the structure of the developed countries, there is a big gap. On the other hand, in the two periods, the quantity of high price segment industries with the share exceeding (include 50%) 50% is rare, not reaching the 1/3 of the whole industrial exports lines, and those industries have large trade deficit. Finally, in the basis of conclusions, give the policy suggestions of the thesis.
