A Study On The Export Competitiveness Of China's New And High-Tech Products

Hi-tech industry, as a knowledge-intensive industry, has been developing very fast since 1980s. As hi-tech industry has become the leading force of economic development, it is always chosen as the strategic industry fostered by countries around the world. The growth of hi-tech merchandise trade is very meaningful to the constant and healthy development of a nation's overall trade, such as enhancing its competitiveness of trade, and optimizing trade structure of goods.In the very beginning, this paper reviews the related theories, for instance competitiveness theory and international trade theory. Based on this, it sums up the reality of foreign trade of hi-tech merchandise. With a clear classification and definition of hi-tech goods, it analyzes hi-tech merchandise in the following aspects, namely trade volume, trade structure, direction of trade, and current situation of nine groups of hi-tech merchandise.With the analysis of trade structure and competitiveness for nine groups of hi-tech merchandise mentioned above, it derived the advantage and difficulties for the trade of hi-tech merchandise. From the analysis above, we found out the following problems. Firstly, although the export and related competitiveness of hi-tech merchandise is rising rapidly, the competitiveness of trade is weak. Secondly, the structure of trade is not reasonable and needs to be improved. Thirdly, value-added of goods is relatively low. To deal with those problems above, it is suggested that government should provide good environment for the export of hi-tech merchandise. To promote the development of trade, it is important to foster training of hi-tech talent.
