Analysis Of The TBT In China's Honey Export Trade And The Impact

China had a long history of bee feeding. There were plenty of glucose, fructose, kinds of enzyme, vitamine and minerals in honey, which was a good kind of food for health. In 2006, China produced 333,000 ton of honey. Excepting for using in domestic, more than 81,000 ton of honey was exported, the value of export was more than US$100 million. From 1990, with the increasing importing of Chinese honey, the main partners began to set kinds of barriers to protect the domestic markets. Among which the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) was most functional.This article firstly introduced the production and trade situation of Chinese honey, then pointed out the problems existed in Chinese honey industry. China had the biggest annual production of honey in the world. Compared with the honey produced aboard, the Chinese honey had low prices and pure component, but also had the disadvantages such as high moisture content, superscale of pesticide or veterinary drugs. The main exporting markets of Chinese honey were Japan, USA and EU et al. Affecting by TBT in the main markets, the quantities and amount of export of honey both were unstable.Secondly, this article analyzed the records of withdraw in the trading with main partners. Found out that the main reason of withdraw was because of the unwanted drugs in the honey. Then this article contrasted the rules of drug residues, the standards of honey and the residue guidelines of honey trade in the main partner and our countries. After that this article evaluated the influence of TBT to our honey export.Thirdly, this article calculated the index of competition of Chinese honey included the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA), Trade Competitive Index (TC), Market Share (MS) and Concentration Index (CI) etc. This article also used the gravity model to analysis the influence of TBT barriers quantitatively.At last, this article gave some advice to overcome the barriers for the Chinese honey industry.This article was helpful for understanding the impacts of the TBT to the honey trade of china, and it's also usefull for the research of TBT in the agricultural commodities trade.
