For more than twenty years,development zones,those special economic areas as well as special policy areas,have made substantial contribution to the economic development of modern China.However,with the amazing growth,the competition between development zones has become more fiercely.Meanwhile,the domestic and international environment has kept changing, especially in recent years,the Chinese central government has applied the macro-control policies, which,to some extent,have impacted the further development of development zones.It is a key problem for all development zones to consider how to keep its role in economic development and realize its sustainable growth under the present conditions.Therefore,this thesis introduces the conception of core competitiveness of development zones,trying to answer the above problem.In the first part,it recalls the history of overseas and domestic development zones,and analyzes the problem occurred at this period.In the second part,it makes a summary about competitiveness and core competitiveness,their theory basis and main ideas.In the third part,it introduces conception of core competitiveness of development zone,and suggests that core competitiveness of development zones consists of five parts:industrial competitiveness,talents competitiveness,capital competitiveness,science&technology competitiveness and management competitiveness,It gives detailed analysis to this five parts and list the analysis system of core competitiveness of development zones.In the fourth and firth part,it takes Xishan economic development zone for example,and makes full analysis to the zone and its core competitiveness,and gives suggestions to improve its core competitiveness.
