Study On The Strategies For Sustainable Development Of Fruit Production In Hebei

Hebei is a major province of fruits production. The planting area and yield of pear, date, chestnut and peach in Hebei rank the top place in China. These produce are also the traditional and predominant items for export in Hebei. With China's accession to the WTO and increasingly fierce competition in the domestic fruits market, fruits production industry in Hebei has stepped into a new era facing international competition. Under the new circumstance, the advantages enjoyed by the traditional fruits in Hebei are fading away gradually with low prices, overproduction, less export earning, and poor competition ability. Therefore, it is of important practical significance to figure out the problems of the fruit production industry in Hebei by analysis and research so that sustainable development strategies can be established to take full play of the advantages, to occupy a position in the fierce market competition both at home and abroad as well as maintaining sustainable healthy development.With SWOT as the main analysis tool and by reference collection, statistics analysis, this essay made a thorough and deep analysis and research into the fruits industry in Hebei in the aspect of current domestic and international trade situation, market demand and consumption trend, production advantage and development restrictions. It is pointed out that Hebei enjoys six advantages such as location, natural resource, cost, potential international market, technology, and policy in the development of fruit production.It is also pointed out that there are some restrictive factors that block the development such as unreasonable structure of varieties, farmer's insufficient technology knowledge, poor production conditions, and low input in the production process, as well as low-level of farmer's organization, insufficient post-harvest merchandisation, weak storage and processing capacity, lack of leading enterprises, few well-known brands, backward in management systems, and imperfect marketing network in the circulation chain. The general objectives and plans for the sustainable fruit production in Hebei have been put forward in this essay, that is, to establish the export-oriented fruits production base in the areas which are shorten as"five districts and two strips",to cultivate the main advantageous species such as pear, date, and chestnut, to enhance the production of conventional species like apple, peach, and grape, to promote the local species of almond, walnut, and persimmon, to develop the anti-season as well as seasonal fruits, to design the layout of planting rationally and adjust the structure of varieties, to implement the policy of quality improvement for profit and take full play of large enterprises'leading role, and promote the industrialization of fruits production. A series of specific measures are put forward for the sustainable development of fruits production industry in Hebei province in the aspects of production, technology service, industrialization development, market circulation and supervision system.
