According to the emendation of MARPOL Annex I. Regulation 13G, thesingle hull VLCC will be dropped from market imperatively. So in order to prolong the life of service, owner would like to changesingle hull into double hull."HEBEI MOUNTAIN" is a single hull VLCC and its principle dimension is as follows:LENGTH 328 mBREADTH 57 mDEPTH 30.8 mThe project will add double bottom and longitudinal bulkheads at eachside in the cargo oil tank, and will form ballast tank of "L". The weight of steel is 8000 ton.This paper introduces the conversion technique for VLCC "HEBEI MOUNTAIN", and in this project the tank was a unit for working. This method can guarantee the strength and also enlarge the scope of working. This project confirm that the method is reasonable andfeasible. During the process of working, the deformation and force ofhull structure are acceptable, and this method can operate safely. So it is scientific.This method is the technical base for the successful conversion of "HEBEI MOUNTAIN", Solve the question of how to deal with theerection sequence and precision control of the structure, and Find a way of conversion to other ship of same type.
