The railway and urban rail transit are the prevailing trend of traffic's development, because that they both are the high efficient, safe and sustainable traffic modes. That whether they have the close connection determines the passenger's travel time and quality. The integration of the railway and urban rail transit (be short in IRURT) aims to make the passenger's travel more convenient by achieving their closer connection. As the rapid mass transit, IRURT seems bridging a rapid channel between the passenger's origin and destination, which shortens efficiently the passenger's travel time. With the shorter time, the traffic pressure can be eased. Therefore, it has major practical significance to study on the IRURT for solving the traffic problem.This paper, taking the city of WuHan as an example, researches on the IRURT in the aspect, on which use the existing railway line to develop urban rail traffic. First of all, the paper summarizes the present traffic station, analyzes the railway resources and capacity, construes the development and planning and finds out the traffic problem to solve of the WuHan city circle.Secondly, WuHan's passenger traffic flow direction and volume are analyzed from the city's development and tourism resources distribution. And the exchange-passenger volume of WuHan and its satellite cities are analyzed from the development of the city. The volume of the passenger traffic, the basic of the traffic study, is the main factor which determines whether we start to run the railway line. So, accurate and reliable analysis of passenger traffic is the important basis for making the IRURT plan in Wuhan city circle.Finally, the IRURT proposals are brought forward. Evaluating the optional proposal, and contrasting the superior or inferior of the similar ones, the choosing opinions are given. Then, the carrying capacity of lines with running the existing railway line as urban rail transit line calculate and that the proposals are workable is proved. And all proposals are affirmed fully from transportation accessibility and other aspects.
