Under the background of global economic integration, the development of tourism in the world is accelerating. Tourism is a sunrise industry, whose healthy development depends on various factors, and the unique role of tourism education can not be ignored. Overall, for the development of tourism, tourism education is playing a role of nurturing, guiding, upgrading and improving. From properties, although tourism education is basing on tourism, however, it is education, not tourism, which is a tourism standpoint, the focus of education. After the Economic reform, the Chinese tourism education has developed along with the development of Chinese tourism industry. And the research about tourism education has also been carried out step by step. Chinese tourism vocational education has gone through more than 20 years, which has made some big achievements. From the structural point of view, Chinese tourism vocational education has been basically formed by graduate students, undergraduates, the college graduates and the secondary vocational school graduates, which is a four-level pyramid structure and has trained a large number of tourism professionals. However, the tourism vocational education faculty is still a weak link; it has also become a "bottleneck" problem during the development of Chinese tourism vocational education. In addition to the original principle of training, curriculum and content of courses, the tourism management education in the secondary vocational schools are more dependent on the knowledge structure of tourism management teachers. This paper is trying to make some preliminary discussion on current teacher's knowledge structure status, existing problems, and the strategies and ideas of improving tourism management teacher's knowledge structure for the secondary vocational schools. This paper consists of five parts.PartⅠ: Introduction. This part provides a brief description on the background of this research, research methods and research significance; and listed some progress status of related researches on tourism education, as well as the reviews and conclusion.PartⅡ: The theoretical research on teacher's knowledge structure and its characteristics of development. Through the study of some documents, first of all, this part analyzes the research results from domestic and foreign experts and scholars about teacher's knowledge and its structure. In addition to this, this part also proposes to study on two aspects: teacher's public education and teacher's personal practical knowledge. In the face of the international trend in teacher's professional development, knowledge in these two aspects is not a linear growth, but broad; they have integrated, multi-functional and diversified characteristics. In these two aspects, teacher's public education is playing a supportive role, and teacher's personal practical knowledge is integrating public education. Furthermore, this part also provides theoretical analysis on the development of the teacher's knowledge structure.PartⅢ: The status analysis of secondary vocational tourism management faculty. This part carries out a comparison of the domestic and foreign tourism vocational school teachers on their status and characteristics. Comparing with the United States, Switzerland, Australia and the United Kingdom, whose tourism vocational education and teachers training are more maturity and well developed, Chinese tourism vocational education started late and is lacking well training and stable channel, emphasizing theory and ignoring the practice. The incomplete and unreasonable tourism professional knowledge structure is the major problem which has restricted the success of its teaching and training.PartⅣ: The survey and analysis on the knowledge structure of current secondary vocational tourism management faculty. Through a questionnaire survey on three secondary vocational schools, this part provides further research and analysis on their current knowledge structure, describes the status, pointing out existing problems and as well as the cause of the problem.PartⅤ: The strategies and ideas of improving the knowledge structure of the secondary vocational tourism management faculty. Based on the above study, the characteristics of tourism industry and its future development, this part attempts to provide some analysis on strategies and solutions, aiming to provide a reference for secondary vocational schools management system and teacher's professional growth.
