Access network, which is the key point of the service provided to customers, is an important part of telecom network. However, the current wired access network is facing the heavy pressure caused by the fast slack of traditional voice -call service and the purpose to satisfy the high-speed and multi-service access network service. It is the eventual direction to use more fiber in order to speed up the wired access network. Therefore, this research is based on the new technology of fiber wired access network. It compared the two ways (fiber wired access network and traditional cable access network) in the range of the capability to support service and the cost of constructing a new network. In case of building new network mainly in FTTB way in the new area of cities, there is much advantage on both of the capability to support service and the cost. Meanwhile, in order to protect the old cost on copper cable and improve access network service, it is the important strategy to change the old copper cable access network into FTTB or FTTN according to the reality in the old area of cities. In the country, it is the effective way to change the network into EPON and implement the fiber-instead-cable strategy, in order to reduce the risk that cable is stolen or lost and speed up the construction of access network in the country. This paper explained the eventual direction to use more fiber in order to speed up the wired access network more detailed by real cases. There are five chapters in this paper. Chapter one introduced the current development of access network. Chapter two introduced fiber access network technology, especially introduced the analysis for network topology in EPON,FTTB/FTTH technology. Chapter three compared the models for constructing access network in cities in the range of the capability to support service and the cost of constructing a new network. Chapter four analyzed the models for constructing access network in country, especially analyzed the cost for fiber-instead-cable operation in country. Chapter five delivered expectations of fiber access network technology.
