Since the reform and opening, with rapid development of socio-economic in Chengdu, there is an acute change in structure of rural socio-economic. At the same time, the amount, structure and environment of rural residential land in Chengdu all have changed correspondingly. So, the study on rural residential land use during urbanization of Chengdu which economy grows quickly is very important. This paper mainly studies these aspects. Firstly, described the current situation of rural residential land of Chengdu, then, analyzed the change of rural residential land between 1997-2007 from the perspective of amount and regional difference, and based on these studies, summarized and concluded the issues of rural residential land of Chengdu, Secondly, used mathematical statistical method to analyze the driving force of rural residential land change on social and economy aspects. Finally, based on the first and second study, advanced suggestion that to optimal management rural residential land. The conclusions of this research were as follows:(1) The rural residential land had changed by a relatively large margin in Chengdu city from 1997 to 2007, and its shows reduction on total. It's had reduced 100549.8 hm~2 to 96054.75 hm~2, decreased by 4495.05hm~2, and decrease 0.42% per year. The change speed of rural residential land on area is center city > banlieues >suburbs.(2) The regional difference of rural residential land in Chengdu city is in evidence. The result shows that the change speed of center city is fastest, and then is the banlieues. the change speed of suburbs is the last one. The relative change rate is 3.15%, 1.97%, 0.80%.(3) The location affects the rural residential land in Chengdu evidently. The results shows that the location of rural residential land more important in center city and suburbs areas, which location index is 1.20 and 1.38; To banlieues, the location index of rural residential land is lower; it is only reach 0. 82%.(4) We use factor analysis, and selected 10 socio-economic factors, then use spss to analyze the driving force. The results shows that the rural population reduces, rapidly development of industry and urbanization were the main driving forces to the change of rural residential land in Chengdu.(5) Based on the problems of rural residential land, this paper advanced the suggestion on the following aspects: land planning, law and property rights, in order to strengthen the management of rural residential land.
