Study On The Relation Between Road Freight Transport Demand And Traffic Volume

In the face of a lot of questions caused by traffic volume, which was forecasted with four-step forecast method, as main variable of economic evaluation of the road items planning and construction, and the fact that the current theories and methods of forecasting the traffic volume are difficult to have more achievements in enhancing the reliability of forecast. This article has constructed a science platform of forecasting the traffic volume, and has studied one new method about the forecast of traffic volume from the essential relation between transport demand and traffic volume.The voluminous traffic volumes have formed from the course of realizing transport function. Satisfying the transport demand is the main factor of deciding the traffic volume, and traffic volume is the exterior and expressive modality of Satisfying the transport demand. Then, the forming source of traffic volume is transport demand of different modality, different quality, different technology and economy characteristics. Hence, the form mechanism of traffic volume is that, existing of transport demand need be realized under the driving of benefit of transport demanders, transport volume has been formed; Satisfying the transport demand with some measures of transport, traffic volume has been formed.Based on the production mechanism of traffic volume, under the premise of knowing the area freight transport demand volume, According to the link and intrinsic request which the essential connotation of transport demand characteristics is economical characteristic, and the basis criterion which the choice basis of demanders is that the total economic cost is the lowest. This article has studied the relation between freight transport demand and traffic volume, including assignment of region freight transport demand, region road freight transport demand, and the transformation between corridor transport volume and traffic volume. The traffic volume which is forecasted by this method is more accurate and reliable, is close to the actual condition, and has the important significance of making-policy in for road items planning and construction.
