The Theory Of Business Ecosystem And A Study Of Its Application In ICT Industry

Modern business systems become complex business networks increasingly, in which every company is only a node. No company is lonely island, and sustainable success depends on the participation and utilization of business networks. The theory of business ecosystem originated in the 1990s tries to explain the phenomenon of business network.Many previous literatures did a lot of studies on the connection between Ecology and business network, and the evaluation of the health of business ecosystem. But there are two main shortages in previous studies, because their thoughts were trying to use relative concepts of Ecology to describe existing business networks.First, in real business, though establishing internal business ecosystem to realize the synergy among businesses, many companies which are originally only one link in single industry chain become Eco-enterprises. Thereby, they can make business relationships with more species (supplyers, customers, service providers, etc.), and establish complex business ecosystem with itself at the core. But previous studies only focused on the relationship among companies, and did not discuss how to establish Eco-enterprises to realize the transition from single industry chain to business ecosystem.Second, in nature, there is one or more key species in any ecosystem, which have a great influence in the system. Similarly, business ecosystem needs core company to lead the whole system achieve sustainable development. There is a key issue: how to get the leadership in a business ecosystem.This thesis does some research on several ICT enterprise cases (Yachang, Alibaba, Intel, Cisco, and Microsoft), discusses the issues above, and analyses the formation and development of mobile internet business ecosystem based on preamble conclusions.
