With the development of urbanization and industrialization, the demand of urban construction land is constantly increasing. It faces enormous pressure between the supply of urban land and the aim of dynamic balance of total cultivated land. The study disclosed the interaction mechanisms driving force and law, it was concluded by analyses on the law of diversity area and time of urban land use. That had positive practical significance for promoting the extensive and intensive development of urban land use. As the capital city of Sichuan, the economic of Chengdu had developing rapidly, the overall level of urban land use had been low-intensive, the intensive use of land in districts had different variability. To study the variability between this level of regularity and analyze its impact factor had a positive meaning to effect in raising the level of intensive use of urban land, and it had a positive meaning to ease the pressure on land for urban construction and planning of scientific and rational management of urban land. The article based on land intensive utilization connotation and the situation, characteristic of urban land use in Chengdu, from the land investment level, land utilization extent, land output effect and land present state tried to set up an index system of land intensive utilization level, through analyzing on land intensive use universe diversification and area and time variability to study the influence factor and influence degree of urban land intensive utilization. The conclusions as follows:(1) From 1997 to 2000 the urban land intensive utilization level of Chengdu was low, but it had a tendency to rise, and the average annual growth rate was 2.86%.in the period of prophase from 1997 to 2001, the escalating trend of land intensive utilization level was gently, however in anaphase it raised quickly.(2)Within the research period from 2001 to 2006, the land intensive utilization level of Chenghua improved significantly, that in Wenjiang, Pujiang, Wuhou and Xinjing also improved but not so significantly, in the areas of Dayi, Jinniu, Chongzhou, Pixian, Qionglai, Longquanyi, Xindu, Pengzhou, Dujiangyan it had a gentle tendency to decline, and in Qingbaijiang, Jinjiang, Qingyang, Shuangliu, Jintang it had dramaticly declined.(3) There was a clear regional variability in the intensity level of urban land utilization in Chengdu city ,it can be divided into 4 categories; The first category included Chenghua district, Qingyang district Jinjiang district, Jinniu district, Wuhou district; The second category included Shuangliu, Pengzhou, Dayi,Pujiang, Xindu, Pixian, Xinjin; The third category included Dujiangyan, Qionglai, Qingbaijiang, Wenjiang, Longquanyi,,Chongzhou,; The fourth category included Pixian.(4) The main influence factors of urban land intensive utilization in Chengdu were as follows:GDP, city scale, investment in fixed assets, population density, and so on. The order of the impact extent from large to small was as follow: population density, GDP, city scale and investment in fixed assets.Based on the above research results, suggestions on how to promote the intensive utilization in Chengdu were advanced as follows: To the guidance of scientific concept of development, to enhance the capacity of scientific development, to protect and promote the intensive use of urban land in Chengdu; Using economic levers to promote the intensive use of urban land; The reasonable preparation of land use planning to actively promote the city replacement sites; Optimizing the layout of urban space and land-use structure; To strengthen the investment in fixed assets, to raise the level of intensive use of urban land.
