| Since the reform and opening up, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have made important contributions to China's economic and social development. In the Yangtze River Delta region, which is the most advanced and most active regions of China's private economy and SMEs, SMEs play an important role in promoting economic growth, increasing employment opportunities, speeding up the industriali- -zation process, adjusting the industrial structure and so on. They have become the major force in local economic development. Though SMEs in the Yangtze River Delta region have generated a unique competitive advantage, they have revealed a series of bottleneck problems in production, management and marketing. Especially in the face of the global recession, many SMEs have frequently occurred a phenomenon of half cut-off, shutdown and bankruptcy. They have suffered different degrees of living dilemma. Therefore, it will bring a certain theoretical and practical significance not only to enrich the SMEs'life-cycle theory contents but also to promote the long-term stable development of China's small and medium enterprises if we find out the underlying reasons of their falling into the plight, thus to ponder over how to help our SMEs to achieve transformation and upgrading smoothly and get sustainable vitality.This paper begins with the definition of SMEs in China, corporate life-cycle theory and research status at home and abroad of the business survival problem , then describes systematically the development overview and basic characteristics of SMEs in Yangtze River Delta region. Based on the above theory and research background, through observation to a series of economic indicators and analyses to a large number of data and information, this paper introduces operating conditions of SMEs in Yangtze River Delta region in recent years, and then analyzes in deep their survival situation and underlying causes for the living dilemma under the financial crisis, including internal powerful and external environmental ones. According to these problems, this paper brings out a series of countermeasures in macro and enterprise perspective to enhance the living ability of SMEs in Yangtze River Delta region. |
