| This thesis evaluates the inbound tourism development of our 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities making use of DEA model based on panel data from 1999 to 2008 in terms of development efficiency and scale benefits aspects. The evaluation results from national, regional and provincial dimension shows that the inbound tourism development efficiency of most areas in our country is below; from the regional point of view, the eastern part is the highest, next is western part, and the central part is the lowest. The results are due to regional economy development level, geographical location, and government policies and so on. The problems like hotel, fixed assets investment, and labor redundancy, or output deficiency exist in most low-efficiency provinces. The scale benefits results show that majority of provincial inbound tourism development in our country present trend of scale expansion, and the incremental crease varies in the light of different cases.Together with results of efficiency and scale benefits, the inbound tourism development of all provinces is divided into four different types. This thesis put forwards some suggestions based on the analysis of the inbound tourism development background of each province and the results of DEA evaluation. This thesis does a thorough analysis of provincial inbound tourism development path and trend from vertical and horizontal angles based on panel data making use of qualitative and quantitative methods, and then summarizes four different inbound tourism development types of different provinces. On one hand, this thesis enriches the quantitative research methods on inbound tourism. On the other hand, it collates and summarizes the interprovincial inbound tourism development rules and types, which will help to find out the main problems and provide useful suggestions and strategies. |
