Zhangjiajie Tourism Development Brief History (1979-2009)

Zhangjiajie city was originally called Dayong city, the original part of the Western Hunan Tujia-Miao Autonomous Prefecture Dayong City (county-level cities), Sangzhi county, Cili county was belonged to Changde area were drawn from the two to form provincial jurisdiction Dayong City, the original Dayong was changed to city jurisdiction Yongding township, Zhangjiajie, Suoxiyu and Tianzishan three scenic added Originally belonging to Dayong city's (county-level cities) Xiehe and Zhonghu township were merged to form the city jurisdiction Wulingyuan area in 1988 approving by the State Council. Dayong City was renamed Zhangjiajie city in April 1994 approving by the State Council.Zhangjiajie city was established because of tourism, Zhangjiajie tourism was really developed after 1979, especially because of the need of development of the situation in tourism, it established city-level Dayong in 1989, sending Zhangjiajie tourism development to the fast lane. This article from a historical perspective comprehensively reviews Zhangjiajie tourism development's historical background, process and development as well as facing new problems from 1979 to 2009 thirty years since, and proposes recommendations and countermeasures for the development of tourism in Zhangjiajies.
