With economic development, population growth, natural resources and environmental issues become increasingly prominent. Economic development and urbanization caused the acceleration of land use/ land cover dramatically changed, so fully and timely grasp the basic state of resources and the environment is very important. As the Northeast's second largest city, Changchun is the highly representative land use/cover change city in northeast. This paper chooses Changchun city as a study area, with the support of remote sensing and geographic information system to analyze the study area land use/land cover change, forecast the trends of this area land use/cover change, makes a driving forces analysis of the land use/cover changes and accesses the following results:(1) The study uses remote sensing and geographic information technologies, on the basis of pre-process and the enhanced process for each image, chooses the way of human-computer interaction interpretation to precisely extract the study area land-use information. The monitoring results showed that:From 1993 to 2001, in addition to reduction in dry area, other land use types are more or less increased, in particular the beach, town settlements, woodland, road space are largest increased, while the rivers, railway, airport area almost have no change; from 2001 to 2008 changes in the types of land larger than 1993 to 2001, of which dry land, beaches, paddy fields has been reduced in size, which decreased more in dry and beach area, respectively reduced 27848.88hm2 and 18313.48hm2; other land types have increased, especially the largest increases are lakes and reservoirs, urban settlements and woodland, respectively increased by 18781.73hm2,11320.37hm2 and 6100.57 hm2, followed by more industrial land growth, increasing the 4348.22hm2.(2) Based on the analysis of land use/land cover, use of Markov model to forecast the land use/land cover change trends of Changchun City in 2015,2022,2029, the forecasting results show that urban resident points, rural residential points, industrial land and traffic land in the study area showed an increasing trend, in which the greatest increases in urban settlements, while the dry land and unused land showed a decreasing trend.(3) From natural factors, population, economic, and policy aspects to make driving forces analysis for the study area land use types. The results show that the study area is affected by natural factors, but also by social factors. In natural factors, the topography and hydrological conditions are the main driving force; in social factors, population, economy and policy are the main driving force.
