In the south of the Yangtze River,small-scale decentralized fishery is one of the fishery. However, with the rapid development of the society, this kind of fishery has been challenged and it is under great change both in forms of fishery production and fishery ecology. The ecological balance among the fishing economy, culture, and aquarium environment has been broken up, and the traditional fishery production mode is gradually declining as a result of large scale fishing, modern aquaculture and so on. In order to restore the ecological balance, it is necessary to have a research on the social and ecological transformation of fishery production mode in the south of Yangtze River. With the case study of Kaixuangong village, the author investigated local fishmen and made a detailed description and analysised of the transformation from the traditional one to the present one over the past 70 years and as well as its causes and effects. The author believes that this kind of transformation brings about a series of consequences, for example, the declining of the rice farming, silkworm cultivating, and traditional fishery, the hidden danger of food supplies, and water pollutions .etc. This kind of transformation and consequences are a direct result of environmental pollution, industrial reconstructing, the transfer system construction of the rural land, and as well as market demand. The rationally developed of fishery mode and water ecosystem protection and restoration are interactional, the key to restore the harmonious condition for people, fish, and water is to integrate the whole society---the government, village community, villagers, especially fishmen. This dissertation emphasizes the transformation of the fishery, distinguishes its reasonableness and unreasonableness in the process, and shows a picture of the production and daily life of the fishmen in Kaixuangong village.
