A Study On The Evaluation Index System Of MICE International Central City

The MICE (Meeting, Incentive Tourism, Convention, Exhibition, and Events) industry attracts more attention because of its significant economic effects. In some countries in which, such as USA, and Germany, their MICE industry developed far more than other countries, the economic impact ratio has already reached 1:9. Many previous studies pointed out that the MICE industry had been considered as one of the most flourishing departments in tourism industry. The economic and non-economic impacts of MICE industry, considered as the new economic increasing point, have become one of the most important strategies in developing a city and its image. After realizing the MICE's importance, many cities plan to develop themselves to a MICE centre city. However, by lacking of scientific methods and theoretical guidance, there are many exhibition halls were built up without suitable planning, which result in serious waste of resources. So the scientific theoretical guidance in MICE industry development, which plays an important role in solving the problems on how to effectively use the experience of other countries for reference and how to correctly identify market conditions, is necessary for MICE industry deep development.This study reviews the previous studies of MICE industry assessment and MICE destination assessment, on the base of the cities＇development, combining with the city's competition model and industry competition model, and finally set up the original structure and criterion. Through the factor analyzing and experts interviews, the criteria index system has been adjusted and the final criteria system has been set up. Then each factor's weight has been calculated by using the fuzzy AHP. Finally, the criteria system of international MICE central city has been established, which will offer related theoretical guidance to the MICE city development. Firstly, this study defined what the international MICE city is, and concluded the international MICE city's characteristics. Secondly, the criteria system has been set up on the base of competitive power and destination selection theories and discussed and calculated the importance of each factor. Finally, putting this system into case analysis, this study assessed and compared Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The criteria system of international MICE central city is not only used to assess the MICE city, but also used as the evidence and reference in city developing process.The composition of this study is seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter is named the definition of the international MICE city, which analysis the international city's characteristics. The third, fourth, and the fifth chapter are the process of this study whose subjects is the international MICE cities. The sixth chapter is the application of this system. This study compares Shanghai, Singapore, and Hong Kong by using this criterion system and finds the gaps among these three cities in order to develop Shanghai's into an international MICE city. The seventh chapter contains conclusion and prospection, which points out the study's shortages and prospection in future studies.
