The problems existing in present station layout in the mountainous area have a bad effect on the operation of railway transport enterprises:too many stations handling passenger and freight transport, dense station layout, low scale effect and so on. First of all, current layout in domestic & fogreign railway station and the current two modes of station layout adjustment have been analysed. Then, their effects on transport organization and economic and social benefits have been analysed.The thesis is mainly organized as the following:(1) Modes of the station layout adjustment. Transport centralization is the trend and core task of station layout adjustment which is constitued of passenger & freight traffic centralization and cancellation of some intermediate stations.(2)The effect on transport organization caused by station layout adjustment. This has been analysed from the three aspects:passing capacity, train traveling speed and the efficiency of locomotive operation.(3) The analysis of economic benefit brought by station layout adjustment. The cost and benefit caused by station layout adjustment have been analysed, including direct and indirect cost like possible increasing transforming investment, the economic benefits of improving railway transport capacity,saving travel time and the cost of goods still on the way.(4) The comprehensive evaluation of the adjustment of station layout. The Entropy Method is employed to obtain the optimal solution.(5) Case study. The current situation of Xichang section of Chengdu railway bureau has been analysed. The adjustement of station layout is then proved to be essential which agrees with the railway ministry's target of "Two integrations and one constrution". In addition, two plans have been proposed according to nfluence of the strategic cargo-loading spot on the nearby stations. By using the index of technology,cost and benefit and social influence, the plans mentioned above have been compared. At the end, passenger transport centralization is proved to be the better one.Finally, summary and questions to be studied in the future have been presented.
