Sustainable Consumption

Facing increasing worsening global environmental crisis and survival crisis, human beings have to respond in a reasonable way, to reflect their production mode, life style and consumption patterns. The non-sustainable consumerism and its consumption patterns are the main factors that caused the environmental crisis. Guided by Scientific outlook on development, based on consumption concept and sustainable consumption, with the Earth Biosphere and human beings'sustainable development as its objective, this paper suggests constructing a Sustainable Consumption Concept that inheriting/advocating the traditional Chinese ideology of frugality by analyzing the harmfulness of consumerism and major problems of consumption in China, to help to solve the biggest global problem of the day.The paper is composing of the following six parts.Chapter One is summarization. The concept of Sustainable Consumption, the objective and meaning of studying Sustainable Consumption, its research situation both at home and abroad and research methodology are reviewed in this chapter.Chapter Two explores the basic conceptions of consumption concept, defines consumption and consumption concept, and discusses the dialectical relations between consumption and production and consumption concept's role in social life.Chapter Three discusses definition, nature and relevant problems of consumerism. Its harm to society is reviewed by talking about its concept and realistic problems. It focuses on the developing trend of consumerism in China and analyzes the lesson China can draw from American consumerism's realistic danger to society.Chapter Four is about the connotation and meaning of Sustainable Consumption. This chapter explains the theoretical connotation of Sustainable Development and Sustainable Consumption and the relations between the two, also the meaning of establish Sustainable Consumption.Chapter Five deals with the major problems shown in consumption patterns in China, and analyzes the cause of cereal waste, construction waste and energy waste in China.Chapter Six is about the proposition of establishing a Sustainable Consumption Concept. Based on the traditional Chinese ethical ideology of frugality, with Marxism theory of man and nature and Scientific outlook on development as guiding ideologies, and fair consumption of harmony of man and nature, rational consumption and people-orientation as fundamental principles, to scientifically deal with the relations between Sustainable Consumption and economical development and employment. To promote a social practice of Sustainable Consumption by economical and tax policies. To establish Sustainable Consumption Concept and new consumption patterns in China by cultivating consumers with Sustainable Consumption as its main approach.With discussions above, the author expects that this paper can be of some help to advocate Sustainable Consumption and to alleviate the resource shortage and environment crisis in China.
