Study On The Relationship Of Chongqing Port Construction And Regional Economic Development

Chinese port has been enjoying its rapid development these years. The port development is inseparable from the city where port is located. The development of port city economic will lead the development of the port. At the same time, the port as an important part of port city plays a significant role in promoting the development of city economic. And the economy of hinterland can be extremely enhanced by the port too. There is a close relationship between port and the region where port is located. Hence it draws great consideration to deal with relationship between port and city. In future, along with the uninterrupted growth of the market economy, it is necessary to quicken the unification of regional economy. Port will play a growing important role in the development of regional economy. Accurate positioning relationship between the port and the regional economy will help identify the development direction of the port and provide the foundation for the economic policy of port city. Therefore, it is vital to measure the port's contribution to the growth of city and regional economy scientifically.One important point of this paper is that use the quantitative analysis on the influence of harbor to harbor cities.Use the empirical analysis and DEA to analysis the Chongqing harbor's berths,the harbor fixed asset investment,container throughput,cargo throughput and the Chongqing city's fixed asset investment,the number of employees,GDP,the total retail amount of the consumable of the society.From the result obtained that Chongqing port construction is basically meet the needs the development of Chongqing economic,but not become to Chongqing city's economic groeth pole.And According to the model results, it summarizes a couple of suggestion to coordinated development of Chongqing harbor and the city. This paper applies the vertical comparative method. Collecting data on Chongqing city and Chongqing harbor from the year of 1999 to the year of 2008, the author analyses the efficiency of Chongqing harbor to the city's economic development.
