Virtual tour is a kind of pleasure experience, virtual tourists use of computers, multimedia, sensors and other equipment, roaming in the virtual world which is created in the virtual reality technology, this experience could happened in any time and any places where there are related software and hardware environment. Virtual Tour can be divided into two categories: desktop virtual tour and immersive virtual tour. Desktop virtual tour is a kind of tour, virtual tourists will receive 3D information and audio information, by CRT monitors and other equipment; Immersive virtual tour is another kind of closed tour, virtual tourist use of helmet monitors and other equipment to immerse in virtual world. As a method of informating cultural industries, the advantages of virtual tour systems are obvious. It can not only promote the protection of natural and cultural, but also can play a important role in publicizing history and culture, at the same time meet someone's special tour requirment. Thus it will bring certain economic benefits, social benefits and environmental benefits. With the maturity of virtual reality technology, the costs of the development of virtual tour system will decrease, and the virtual tour will be an important field for tourism.Jinci locate 25 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan, Shanxi province, and it was built in Northern Wei to memory Jiyu who was the second son of King Zhouwu. Including ancient temple, garden and sculpture Jinci is a precious historical and cultural heritage. There are the hardly old Spring, and ancient trees in it. It is the first 4A level scenic spot in China, is also one of the national cultural protection units. The tourism of Jinci started earlier and it is in maturity now. With the development of other scenic spots in Shanxi province, the tourism of Jinci is challenged, and the conservation task is more difficult. The development of Jinci virtual system is not only more intuitive, but also more efficient way to promote scenic, and it opens up new areas of Jinci tourism, and brings certain economic benefits. As a 3D electronic database it is beneficial to the ancient buildings and the protection of ecological enviroment, and has a certain social and enviromental benefits. This paper discusses the trends and development situation of domestic and international virtual tour, and analysis the definition, characteristics and classification of virtual tour. This paper also investigates virtual reality technology. On this basis, according to some related theories of Software Engineering, Tourism Psychology and Marketing, the programs of development, design and promotion of Jinci virtual tour system was conceived in this paper. The short-term goal of system development is developing a desktop virtual tour system, which includes 360-degree roaming system and virtual tour system based on geometric modeling in the next 2 to 3 years; Its long-term goal is developing a set of immersive virtual tour system and establishing electronic databases of Jinci heritage, rise the level of tourism development of Jinci. This paper introduces the idea, method and process of desktop virtual tour system of Jinci. It includes three systems:virtual tour, management and shopping system, and it shuold provid basic information, tourism trends,360-degree roaming, virtual tour, shopping online, reservation online, system management, and so on. The design of system includes software platform design and architecture design. This paper discusses in detail the structure of web pages and 3D scene design based on geometric modeling. Finally, this paper presents short, medium and long-term goals of market promotion of the system.I hope this paper can improve perfection of the theory of virtual tour and be helpful for development of virual tour system of Jinci.
