From the view of the European & American retailing history, Chain Supermarket Business Model reflects the tendency of modern retailing. Building Materials Retailing is also leading by the Model of Supermarket. Therefore, it has important significance for the research of development trend of Chinese building materials retailing to analyze the development of Building Materials Supermarket (BMS) model which was directly copied into China.Along with the progressing of urban housing system reform, building materials retailing developed rapidly. In the late 1990s , with the boosting demand on the product quality and after sales service, the model of BMS of Europe and America was introduced into China. This Great-leap-forward development which surpassed the level of economic development had made great contribution to the development of the building material market of China. Therefore, localization of the BMS'model in China is bound to include some recursive adjustment.Issues and challenges of localization of BMS include from"Everyday Low Price"to"Everyday Promotion", from DIY to BIY and"Do It for You"of Decoration Center, and resident representative of vender to store,disproportions of Special Order Sales, etc. From 2008 to 2009, some major enterprises of BMS in China had a series of positive adjustment to return to the BMS's essence, having primarily: BPR by means of ERP project, adjustment of the marketing mode to cut down residents representative of vender to store, category planning and supply chain management improvement,gear to the trends of Experiential Consumption,and to develop the high-end and ornament market.The main characteristics of the BMS differentiation from traditional booth tenancy model as follows: large-scale operation and integrated information management based on IT, formation of supermarket supply chain, customer oriented, low-price, and one stop shopping. After the 10 years of development,the BMS of China have completed fundamental preparation works on training personnel,exploration of management model,growth of suppliers,etc. Next 3 years will be the period of its adjustment to return,and then,it will go into development stage.With the rapid growth of China economy, the environment of building material market has also changed. From the Strategy readjustment of the supermarket enterprises, they are becoming return to typical characteristics of BMS. At the same time, oriented by market and consumers, BMS also extends to develop high-end market and ornament market, and"one stop shopping"tends to"one-stop integrated solution for home".
