With the Internet and Web technology has matured, and the rapid development of e-commerce, Online Mass Customization has become an important business model. Customer demand is the first source of product configuration in mass customization. One of key technical issues is how to effectively guide customers of different types to express and acquire requirement, access to the real needs of our customers, to avoid distortion of demand information and can be configured quickly, improve the efficiency of online product confituration.When customers custom product throught internet, due to have different knowledge and understanding of product features, performance and structure, if the system does not automatically guide to customers express their needs, then, different customers using the expression varied, the expression demand is not the norm, ambiguous, or even difficult to deal with transformation, the final influence the configuration efficiency and speed; If the system is completely automated guidance, which requires customers from the perspective of the designer but not customer self to consider the issue, the customer will not be able to express their needs flexibly. In view of this, this paper mainly research on product configuration oriented to differdet types of customers under online mass customization mode.First of all, the basic theory about online product configuration are presented, including the basic concept of product family, product family model, the basic concept and methods of product configuration, the template technology. Meanwhile the basic concepts about ontology are introduced, such as the definition, function, the tools, rules and for ontology construction and so on.Secondly, based on the analysis of different types of customer and different requirement under online Mass Customization environment, the configuration features, different types of customer needs templates have been built to adapt to different types of customers. The template is divided into two parts: the structural demand module, unstructured demand module. Structural demand modules include: demand characteristics confirmed, the demand information classification, feature constraint identified, the mapping rules established. Unstructured demand modules include: natural text input, extraction and analysis demand, interactive feedback processing, requirement specification processing. Then, according to customer demand characteristics of the template, online configuration framework has been built to meet different types of customers. Considering characteristics of general customer needs, a general customer need ontology expression model and product family instance ontology model have been established, through ontology mapping in different fields to achieve online configuration. But toward to professional customer, using product configuration methods based on GBOM (generic bills of material).Finally, using the detail techniques and methods in the first two chapters, an online configuration example of a motorcycle enterprise was given to explain and demonstrate the technology and method.
