The Research On Our Country's Shipbuilding Industry Based On SCP Paradigm

In recent years, our country's shipbuilding industry has already made the considerable progress. But compared with the advanced shipbuilding countries such as Korea, Japan and so on, the overall level of our country's shipbuilding industry is still relatively backward. Lacking of the reasonable and effective shipbuilding industry organization structure has become a critical factor which restricts further development of our country's shipbuilding industry. So, it is the urgent matter of the moment to optimize shipbuilding industry organization structure in order to realize sustainable development of our country's shipbuilding industry. The mainly theoretical foundation of the article is SCP paradigm of the Harvard School. It discusses the status quo of our country's shipbuilding industry organization systematically. The main contents of this thesis are as follows.(1) It makes the definition of our country's shipbuilding industry, analyzes characteristics and the status quo of our country's shipbuilding industry. Then it makes use of Compertz curve model to judge life cycle stage of our country's shipbuilding industry and points out that our country's shipbuilding industry is still at earlier growing period, the growing period will still continue until the mid-21thcentury.(2) It respectively analyzes our country's shipbuilding industry market structure, conduct and performance deeply and systematically. Then it concludes that characteristics of market structure are the medium(lower)concentration of oligopoly markets, low differentiation of ship product and high barracks of entry and exit; the shipbuilding enterprises incline to form conducts of lengthways alliance, horizontal merger, enterprise group and so on. But these kinds of conducts which have happened are still few; the level of performance such as shipbuilding industry profit and technique are continuously heightened, but the disadvantages such as the lower rate of profit, weak independent innovation and unremarkable scale economy are still existing.(3) It analyzes the relationship among shipbuilding industry market structure, conduct and performance quantitatively. From the perspective of industry, it applies multiple linear regression model to empirically analyze the relationship between market structure and performance of shipbuilding industry. The empirical results show that market concentration and the size of the enterprises make a significant positive impact on market performance, but product differentiation has a significant negative impact on market performance. From the perspective of enterprise, it applies panel data fixed-effect model to empirically analyze the relationship among market structure, conduct and performance of shipbuilding industry. The empirical results show that the size of the enterprises and cost advantages make a significant positive impact on operating performance, but the rate of inventory turnover has a significant negative impact on operating performance and etc..(4) According to the aforementioned research conclusions, the thesis puts forward the industrial organization optimization suggestions such as promoting the formation of scale economy, setting up large-scale shipbuilding enterprise groups, encouraging shipbuilding enterprises to merge horizontally and motivating industry and university to cooperate and so on.
