Analysis In Regional Specialization Of Manufacturing Industry In Guangdong Province

Analysis in regional specialization is one of the hot topics, which Economists have long been concern to. The Research of regional specialization focus on three sides. First is measure the specialization level for country and regions using Location Quotient, Coefficient of regional specialization, etc., and analysis its industry structure characteristic. Secondly, discuss the factors of regional specialization, and third is study the influence of regional specialization on regional economic growth.This article uses the Comprehensive Coefficient of regional specialization, which was constructed by Fan Zhuofu in 2007, on the basis of Theory of Comparative Advantage and New Economic Geography Theory, we adopt data of 21 cities, 29 manufacturing industries of Guangdong Province in 1998 to 2008, and measure the specialization level for Guangdong Province, then, we analysis its industry structure characteristic. Based on the above work, we use the Econometrics methods do some researches on the factors of regional specialization and the influence of regional specialization on regional economic growth for Guangdong Province.Conclusion of the study displays that degree of regional specialization trends a general increase in the past 10 years in Guangdong Province. Compared with the national average, the degree of regional specialization of Guangdong Province is higher, but slower increase in the past 10 years. On the side of empirical study for the factors of regional specialization, conclusion displays that among this specialization affecting factors, the traditional comparative advantage theory has a relatively strong explanatory power for regional specialization, especially in the factor of labor endowment and endowment of skilled labor to regional specialization, and obviously one city, which has a high labor endowment and endowment of skilled labor, can attract the industry, which is depends on labor, and New Economic Geography Theory also has been confirmed partly. On the side of the influence of regional specialization on regional economic growth, Regional specialization and economic growth was positively correlated. With the increasing of manufacturing regional specialization of manufacturing industry in Guangdong Province, the effect of the industry and inter-industry externalities in promoting economic growth have been strengthened, however, the effect is not simple, one-way, different industries and different regions the effect is different. In general, regional specialization is more effective to promoting economic growth at traditional industries and the developing city.
