With economic continuous development, industrial cluster which attracts many economists has become the most significant characteristics of the world economy activity. The researchers and essays on industrial cluster have never reduced since 1909 when Weber first posed"industrial cluster"concept.The phenomenon of industrial clustering in Shanghai which is one of the most developed cities in China attracts numerous researchers'attention. The manufacturing sector plays an important role in Shanghai's development was called the"engine of economy". Shanghai's advantage in manufacturing sector is not only the foundation to build the international financial center and shipping center but also make Shanghai different with other international metropolis.As Shanghai's manufacturing sector and the phenomenon of industrial clustering are both so attractive, the writer want to know what is the relationship between them. Whether or not they are correlative? What is the extent? And what kind of relationship between the industrial clustering and Shanghai's economic development? The purpose of this essay is to figure out these questions. And there are five sections of this essay:First of all, the preface introduced the background and structure of the whole essay, and then describes the concept of industry and industry clustering. The second part is the theoretical sector including Chapter 1and Chapter 2. Chapter 2 introduces the classical theory of industrial clustering and regional economic growth. The next chapter analyzes the theory of relationship between industrial clustering and regional economic growth more deeply in order to provide theoretical support for empirical analysis. The third sector analyses the manufacturing sector clustering situation in Shanghai now, the conclusion is Shanghai has a high degree of concentration in manufacturing sector, but it has lower advantages with Shandong, Guangdong provinces and etc. The next session use empirical analysis through Spearman correlation and elastic targets to analyze the relationship between Shanghai's economic development and manufacturing sector clustering. Then, I get the conclusion that both Spearman's coefficient are positive number. The final part is the conclusion and some recommendations.
