The research project comes from the SDC (Samsung Design China). In this project, the investigation on the youth users in China is based on the method of lifestyle research. By studying the young consumers'behavior in China, and according to the result of the user survey which is about the mobile phone's color image and its texture image, we designed a mobile phone for Chinese youth--Corby S3650C.In this paper, the main target consumers of this research are young adults aged from 18 to 25. During the research, we find that this group of people has the attribute of diversity, complexity and volatility. Due to the insufficiency of knowing the youth systematically, the Samsung company can always not have effective communication with them. However, most of the existing studies are focusing on only analyzing the consumers'behavior instead of the real insight into the lifestyles of the entire group. Based on the youth lifestyles' survey, observing the discrepancy among their consuming behavior, through the different image preference analysis of mobile's color and material from different populations, we find some user segments and do the CMF design for each segment. Focusing on color designing of mobile phones, and taking the surface material and treatment applications in consideration, this paper presents the role of CMF. in a mobile phone designing procedure. Focusing on the designing the color, combining the use of surface material and treatment applications in mobile design, to describe CMF's role in mobile phone design and process. The difficult part of the research is how to maintain the coherence of the data transmit from the user study to the final design.This paper puts emphasis on discussing the CMF design which attracts extensive attention in the product designing field recent years and introduces color design, materials and application of surface treatment during the mobile phone designing procedure. In the actual cases of mobile designing, we explore and discuss the practical content of CMF design and describe the cooperation between which and the market research during the product development process. By complementing and having a better understanding of the knowledge of product designing field, hopefully this research may arouse certain attentions to the CMF. design among designers.
