Due to the limited strength and flammability, the traditional flame-retardant cotton fabric could not meet the requirements of modern fire protection. At present, most of high-performance and flame-retardant materials rely on imports in China. The price is high. In order to reduce the cost and improve the overall performance of domestic Fire Service Fabrics, the main content of this issue is to solve the spinnability of PSA fibers, improve the performance of fabrics and to develop a kind of permanent flame-retardant fabric based on PSA fiber.Based on fibers characteristics, Kevlar 1313 was selected to blend with PSA according to the combustion mechanism of textile fibers. Through studying the relationship between blending ratio and yarn properties, suitable blending ratio was determined.PSA yarns are difficult to spin due to its high volume receptivity, low surface friction coefficient and poor curly stability. This problem was solved by optimizing fiber pretreatment and carding process. During the process of spinning, siro spinning was used. Yarn properties including evenness, strength, hairiness were improved greatly by optimizing the manufacturing parameters such as twist factor. In addition, the critical twist factor of the blended yarn was determined.The sizing process was determined through the experiments. Different fabric structure was designed based on the standards of fabric strength, weight and other quality indicators about new fire service fabric, and then weaving. Fabric performance tests show that blending ratio and fabric structure have a great effect on tear strength of the fabric. The special anti-tear structure can improve the tear strength of fabric effectively. This provides basis to further reduce the weight of fabric.The tests of fabric flame retardant with different blend ratio and different structure and the analysis of the effect on the flame retardancy of fabrics by these parameters prove that blending ratio has little effect on fabric flame-retardant properties when the fabric density was same. The results show that the key factors affecting the fame-retardant properties of fabric are yarn structure, fiber materials and fabric tightness.Based on the above, various permanent flame- retardant fabrics on PSA fiber basis were developed. Both the strength and the flame retardant of the fabrics can meet the standards of Fire Service Fabric.
