The signing of the Montreal agreement has attracted the world’s attention to launch the research of the alternatives of halon. Water mist technology is one of modern fire extinguishing technologies, which is cheap, extremely efficient, environmental friendly, becoming one of the most popular choices of halon substitutes. However, the ability of the normal water mist fire extinguishing technology is limited, even weaker than that of the gas fire extinguishing technology. With the development of water mist technology, adding clean chemical medium to water mist can change the physical and chemical property during the process of water mist fire extinguishing and then reduce the time of water mist fire extinguish.BTP, one of degradation of brominated hydrocarbons, can be easy to decompose, with no residue and environmental friendly because of the contain of carbon-carbon double bond. In the meanwhile, due to the contain of bromine, it can interrupt the chain reaction and extinguish fire efficiently during the process of fire extinguishing. However, BTP is liquid in the normal temperature which is difficult to release. Nowadays, the research of BTP is limited to the gas generator.In order to improve the efficiency and ability of water mist fire extinguishing, and make full use of the BTP.This paper proposes a new kind of water-based additives. The new water-based additive is a group of multicomponent additives. We launch a orthogonal experiment to study the effectiveness of the components.Firstly, the results of a single additive indicate that the inorganic salts on the fire extinguishing ability are KHCO3 > Na HCO3 > KCl > Na Cl > KH2PO4 > Na H2PO4. Organic salts of potassium oxalate and silicone surfactants can effectively improve the water mist fire extinguishing ability. In order to further improve the water mist fire extinguishing efficiency and give full play to the physical and chemical interaction, it needs to make a new water additives which has not only high efficiency chemical extinguishing medium BTP, K2C2O4, and KHCO3, but also can change the physical properties of the silicone surfactant by using DMF and CF3CH2 OH makes all kinds of additives of two kinds of organic solvent miscible and form a homogeneous solution. We study the multicomponent additives through the orthogonal test, and further confirm the high fire extinguishing efficiency of BTP. Finally, we optimize the formula of concentration and composition. Experimental results show that the new formula of additive agent for 0.5mol/L BTP, silicone surfactant mass fraction of 0.5%, 0.2mol/L K2C2O4, simultaneously has the four characteristics of economy, efficiency, environmental protection, and wide applicability.
