In this article the measurement of the pitch deviation and the tooth surface deviation were achieved by developing the measuring software of face gears. Firstly, the tooth surfaces grid of face gear was divided, the measurement coordinate system of face gear was established on the basis of the gear measuring center, and offset surface was used to replace the designed surface for the probe radius compensation. The midpoint of tooth surface grid was regarded as the measurement point of pitch, the scheme of measurement and error compensation of pitch were designed.The measurement program of the polar coordinates and normal polar coordinate were formulated, the error calculation equation of tooth surface deviation was derived.The measuring software of face gear based on Visual C++ was developed in the Windows system. The measurement system consisted mainly of the reading of the tooth surface data points, the zero positioning, coordinate transformation, the measurement of the pitch deviation and the tooth surface deviation, the measurement error analysis, the graphic output and other modules, that the deviation of face gear can be intuitive judgment.In order to verify the correctness of the measurement results, the measuring software of face gears was applied on the CNC gear measuring center. The specimen of face gear was detected on the gear measuring center. The experiment results proved:in the use of the measuring software of face gear studied in this article, the automated measurement and results analysis of pitch deviation and tooth surface deviation can efficiently completed, and the measurement results were reliable.
