Underground mining operations are considered as hazardous industrial activity because of the poorer ventilation/visibility, the dangers of rock falls, and the presence of toxic gas. Workers safety is of paramount importance and is certainly a moral obligation for any business! When an accident happened to the coal mine, it is crucial to get the information about the locations of the mining workers timely and accurately. Current monitor system has no dynamic distributing information of mining workers.In this paper, ZigBee-based wireless sensor networks technology is used in coal mine monitoring system. which is an application that have attached a great attention in the last few years and is very crucial for the safety of mine workers. These sensors can collected the mining workers position information and transmitted to control management center. The system can implement localization and tracking of moving objects real time.Which would be very useful during emergency situations for reducing the loss of coal mine accidents. In addition, this system is adapted to monitoring application in various indoor/outdoor situations. This paper mainly focused on design and implementation of mine monitoring system using ZigBee-based wireless sensor networks.
